Cara Black – Zimbabwe Tennis
Tennis in Zimbabwe has had it’s ups and downs in the last decade, but nevertheless, the sport has produced some great talents. Most noticeably are the siblings from the Black family (Cara, Byron, and Wayne), they competed at high levels as undergraduates in America, then went to compete at high levels as professionals. Byron, the oldest and Wayne, second oldest are both retired. Wayne Black has recently returned to Zimbabwe with his family from England where he had moved to, came back to build a better youth program for Zimbabwe Tennis.
Other greats that will get a mention will be Kevin Ullyet and Haroon Ismail who helped Zimbabwe Tennis to get recognition. We will also take a look at the young players who are making their way into the rankings, some hoping to compete at the 2012 Olympics.
We’ll talk about the history of the sport in the country, the history of the players on their come-up, and what the country is looking to do in order to help the sport raise a profile in the nation and across the world. We will also track some players who are abroad playing professional and hoping to represent their country some day.
